After Party at the Falkirk Pub: Featured in Manhattan Bride
Marcial and I met many times through a mutual friend, but I never thought anything of it until I headed down to New Orleans for Jazz Fest with a group of girlfriends. It turns out Marcial was there as well for a conference. His group of buddies and my group of girlfriends ended up hanging out together during our stay. We had a blast! Marcial and I kept in touch after we returned to New York, and soon enough he asked me out to dinner. We’ve been together ever since. Marcial works in insurance and I work in advertising. Our proposal took place aboard the USS Intrepid and was filmed by the Today Show. Our friend Tommy, a pilot in the Navy, got promoted to the commander rank and invited us to the ceremony on the Intrepid. Since we were taking off from work, we decided to make a day of it and do a tour. I was in a dress and heels because Marcial insisted we dress for the ceremony since the tour was so short. At one point Marcial excused himself to go to the bathroom and our guide pointed out a marching band with flag girls doing a dress rehearsal for the ceremony. Behind the performers I saw Marcial in a tux running with a bouquet of roses and the flag girls turned around their signs that read “Marry Me.” Then Marcial got down on one knee, and I said yes! Apparently everyone was in on it!
We started looking for a venue right away. After a few appointments, we were driving around and found Falkirk Estate and Country Club through an Internet search. We called and spoke with Heidi Kodukula, events manager, letting her know we were close by and would love to see the venue. From the pristine landscape to the beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows to the gorgeous backdrop of the Ramapo Mountains, we knew immediately Falkirk was where we wanted to celebrate! Heidi was wonderfully accommodating right from the start, and such a pleasure to work with: responsive, professional, and easygoing. The ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Church and our reception followed at Falkirk. The food was amazing!
Marcial is Cuban and I’m Irish so we incorporated this into the panini station at cocktail hour, which included a spread of Cuban sandwiches and corned beef and cabbage sandwiches complete with mini Cuban and Irish flags. Once in the ballroom, dinner began with a duet first course of buffalo mozzarella, beefsteak tomato, and basil napoleon served over a mixed green salad. This was followed by a lemon sorbet intermezzo. For the entrée, our guests had a choice of sliced chateaubriand with a red wine demi-glace, chicken Amalfi sautéed with sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts, or baked Atlantic salmon with dill béchamel. For dessert, we had a Viennese hour and Marcial surprised me with my favorite dessert, Italian ice! Our guests were also treated to our three-tiered wedding cake with chocolate-covered strawberries.
Our band was incredible. I think half the guests thought they were at a concert rather than a wedding. The night ended with karaoke at the Falkirk Pub, where I sang the classic, “Alone,” by Heart,” and guests snacked on mini beef sliders, chicken fingers, French fries, and nachos! We’d like to thank our families and friends for their love and support, as well as all our vendors, especially Heidi and Falkirk!
